Makes 1 pie of 9" diameter
A well-made apple pie steals the show at any dinner! Although it is hard to resist when hot, this pie usually tastes even better a day later, when all the flavours have been absorbed.
Ingredients:
Pie Shell:
170 gm Refined flour
½ cup Ghee or melted butter
Salt
2 tbsp Water
Filling:
4 Apples peeled, cored, cubed small
1¼ cup Sugar
½ tsp Pie spice (or ½ tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp nutmeg, 1/8 tsp cardamom)
1 Egg, beaten
Method:
Pie Shell:
- Sieve the flour along with salt.
- Mix in the ghee using a fork
- Add water and knead into a smooth dough
- Spread the dough evenly on the bottom of a pie vessel
- Prick it with a toothpick all over.
Filling:- Cover and cook the apple with sugar on low heat.
- When cooked, mash the apple and add the pie spices.
- Let it cool, and then mix in the beaten egg and spread the mixture on the pie shell.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 40 min
- Serve hot or cold
